The Marshmallow Tree

Last Saturday we had an awesome morning; my husband and I sipped hot coffee in the cold and wet weather while Princess displayed her artistic talent on a giant chalkboard and the Rock had a chance to charm a pair of teenage girls (whilst enjoying his roasted marshmallow).

All these were made possible by The Marshmallow Tree.

I found out about this relatively new cafe from a link shared on Facebook and decided to check it out, largely due to the lure of the giant chalkboard (Art Saturday excursion). It turned out that the chalkboard was really a wall painted with chalkboard paint (or black paint) but it was a great idea nevertheless (at least for us) as it entertained Princess for a long time!

We ordered waffles and coffees for breakfast. The waffles were suitably moist and flavourful but I wished they were crispier on the outside. Using real maple syrup would also bring the waffles up a notch as I found the flavoured syrup not intense enough in maple flavour, although I understand that real maple syrup is expensive and in doing so the price of the item may not be as pocket-friendly.

The cappuccinos and long black coffee we tried were so-so. Not bad but not particularly aromatic too. But the potted roasted marshmallow "plants" that came with the coffees made up for it as I've a weakness for roasted marshmallow!

The entire cafe exudes a relaxing atmosphere and whimsical charm. The large wooden log table in the middle, the wooden swing on "carpet grass" and huge chalkboard wall are all winning factors in my books. I can see myself spending a few more relaxing mornings with my family there as there is something for each of us.

If you are looking for a family-friendly cafe this weekend, why not give this a try?
